Jon Hyman | Team Physician/Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Jon Hyman re-joins the Xplosion in 2006, working with them as a member
of the Atlanta Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.
Dr. Hyman has practiced in Atlanta since 2000. He is a Board Certified
Orthopaedic Surgeon and is a knee and shoulder specialist. He has
continued to push the 'cutting edge' by innovating/adopting emerging
technologies. Dr. Hyman also works with Dr. Scott Gillogly as an
associate team physician for the NHL Atlanta Thrashers. He previously
worked for three years as an associate team physician with the NBA
Atlanta Hawks.
As a sports medicine specialist, Jon Hyman, M.D., manages non-operative
orthopaedic injuries and also performs minimally invasive surgery. His
clinical interests include: sports performance enhancement through
'pre-habilitation,' injury prevention and accelerating recovery of
athletes of all levels and all sports. He specializes in the complete
care of the injured athlete, and incorporates a broad spectrum of
wellness treatments in his practice. Dr. Hyman is certified in many
areas, including ACL reconstruction, multiligament repair, meniscus
transplantation, allograft surgery, cartilage replacement, rotator
cuff surgery and minimally invasive shoulder, elbow and knee arthroscopy.
He is the Medical Director for the Atlanta Athletes Online with
Harvard Sports Specialists and is the lead author for the Sportsdoc blog.
Dr. Hyman was a multi-sport athlete and graduated from Stanford
University and Harvard Medical School with Honors. He completed his
General Surgery training at Emory University and subsequently completed
his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the world renowned Hospital for
Special Surgery -- Cornell in New York City. In his final year, he
served as Chief Resident and for his research on ACL reconstruction,
he received the prestigious Lewis Clark Wagner Award for Outstanding
Resident Research. Following that program, he went on to complete an
additional year of specialized Fellowship Training in Shoulder, Knee
and Sports Medicine, also at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
During his Fellowship, he worked as an associate Team Physician
with the NFL New York Giants, Iona College Hockey Team and numerous
New York High School Football Teams. He has authored several
research papers and book chapters; and lectures extensively on
state-of- the-art techniques in arthroscopy, sports medicine
and orthopaedic surgery. He volunteers his time in the coverage
of numerous Atlanta area high school Football teams, and covers
both national and local athletic events such as Atlanta Senior
Olympics and National Paralympic Games.
He has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic
Society of Sports Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American
Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and United States Medical
Licensure Examiners.
