June 25, 2005 ~ Against Chicago

ATLANTA BEATS CHICAGO 12-0!

Saturday night in the "Windy City" of Chicago, Illinois the ATLANTA XPLOSION finished its regular season absolutely perfect winning by shutout 12-0. With scorching heat of a record high in Chicago of 98 degrees, the Atlanta Xplosion finished their season (10-0) and became the Southern Central's Division Champs going into playoffs starting on July 9th.

The Xplosion traveled to Chicago to face a team that has never lost a game at home. Their defense is ranked #1 in the West giving up only 61 total points in 10 games. However, 41 of those points came to the Xplosion. The Xplosion's first score came from a hook-up from QB Sue Cackowski to WR Jessalyn Martin. The extra point snap was bad and the score became 6-0. After a tough fought game and three turnovers by the Xplosion's offense, it was the defense that came up "huge" today for the Xplosion.

"What can you say about our defense," added Beniamino. "These girls are the most under-rated defense in the league and have definitely proved that they're one of the best. I wouldn't trade any of them in for any other team out there."

After pitching 7 of 10 shutouts this year, it's hard to argue with him.

The second half began like the first, only this time #26 Tekela "The Truck" Corbitt took it in the end zone in the third quarter for the second score of the evening. The two point try was no good and the game remained and finished 12-0. The Xplosion rested some of its starters including leading league rusher Charmaine Chin, who already has rushed over 1000 yards in only nine games.

"Hey, anytime you can rest some starters and walk away victorious it is always a good feeling. We knew our defense would control the game and they did. Chicago has a lot of great talent on that team and don't be surprised if they make it to the Championship game, added Beniamino."

The Championship game is what this post season is all about. Playoffs begin with only eight teams left battling for that chance to be called, #1. The Xplosion's journey begins with a home game July 9th against the tough Jacksonville Dixie Blues, at Campbell High School in Smryna, GA At 7:00 p.m. Tickets can only be purchased at the gate.

The winner will take on the best of the New York Sharks and the Southern Maine Rebels on July 23rd for the Eastern Crown and a ticket to the big game schedule on August 6th in Manchester, New Hampshire. The 2005 IWFL Championship Game on August 6th will be aired live on KEDU-FM from Manchester, New Hampshire. The broadcast will start at 6:46pm (EDT) and can be heard over the Internet at www.kedu.us.

"It's been a great season for us," said first year head coach Phil Beniamino. "But it doesn't mean anything if we can't win these next three games. Nobody will remember the undefeated season unless we win it all."
