The Atlanta Xplosion Hires New Head Coach
The Atlanta Xplosion, 2006 Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL)
Champions, hired Cedric Roach on Monday as their head coach for the 2006
- 2007 season. Roach, who has 14 years of experience in the coaching
field, will bring his passion and expertise from Arena football to the
rapidly growing sport of women’s football.
“Being able to teach the game of football to women takes a different
type of person,” said Takela Corbitt, owner of the Atlanta Xplosion.
“Having someone with his level of expertise and compassion made me feel
comfortable about making him a part of this organization.”
After being in existence only five years, the Atlanta Xplosion jolted
to the front of the league winning the Eastern Conference Championship
in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, they won the IWFL national championship and
quickly made a name for themselves in a league that’s been in existence
less than a decade.
“To me, winning is an attitude, and coming on board with a group of
champions is going to make it easy to channel that energy into another
winning season,” says Coach Roach. “I’m extremely excited about the things
we have planned, and I’m confident that marrying my love for football
with the Xplosion’s talent will allow us to keep the IWFL title home in
Atlanta.”
