Atlanta Xplosion hosts undefeated Orlando Mayhem
ATLANTA — In a clash of the titans, the Atlanta Xplosion women's tackle football team
will host the Orlando Mayhem on Saturday, May 19 at Roswell High School at 6 p.m. Both
teams are undefeated in the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) and the South
Atlantic division game is significant for playoff implications.
The Xplosion (2-0) is the only team in the IWFL to not allow an opponent to score
through three weeks of the season. Last weekend, Atlanta received a bye while
Orlando (3-0) defeated the Palm Beach Punishers, 37-0. In the two team's last meeting
in 2006, the Xplosion shut out the Mayhem, 41-0.
The National Anthem will be performed by Atlanta artist Roslyn Johnson. Former
Atlanta Xplosion Linebacker and current Mrs. Ohio Kandice Mitchell will assist
Roswell Mayor Jere Wood in the pregame coin toss. Mitchell is married to NFL
Cincinnati Bengal Anthony Mitchell, and wore No. 51 with the Xplosion. Mayor
Wood was elected in 1997 and is a lifelong resident of Roswell. The halftime
show features the Stone Mountain Lady Steppers.
Individual game tickets for all regular season home games are now available. Season
tickets are also still available. Prices for individual game tickets range from
$12-$15.
The Atlanta Xplosion franchise is a women's tackle football team in its fifth
season. The team has compiled a 38-6 record and is the 2006 and 2005 Independent
Women's Football League (IWFL) Eastern Conference Champions. In 2006, the team
defeated the four-time National Champions Detroit Demolition to overtake the
IWFL championship title. The Xplosion consists of a 50 plus all female roster
and plays its home games at Roswell High School in Roswell Georgia.
